Easy Digital Downloads Connector

Install and configure the Checkout Security EDD adapter for Easy Digital Downloads 2.9+.

Easy Digital Downloads connector

The EDD connector, checkout-security-edd, integrates Checkout Security with Easy Digital Downloads and protects digital product checkout flows with the same fraud engine used for WooCommerce.

Requirements

Before installing the connector, confirm that your site has:

  • Checkout Security Core 3.0.0 or later
  • Easy Digital Downloads 2.9 or later
  • PHP 7.4 or later

Installation

Install and activate Easy Digital Downloads

Install Easy Digital Downloads from your WordPress dashboard or upload the plugin package, then activate it from Plugins. The EDD plugin must be active before you activate the connector.

Install the Checkout Security core plugin

In WordPress, open Plugins and select Add New. Select Upload Plugin, upload the checkout-security plugin package, and install it.

Install the EDD connector

Upload and install the checkout-security-edd plugin package from the same Plugins screen.

Activate the core and connector

Activate both Checkout Security Core and the Checkout Security EDD Connector. The core initializes after the connector registers the EDD platform.

Verify the adapter connection

Open the Checkout Security dashboard and check the adapter health status. The dashboard should show EDD as connected.

What the adapter does

The adapter connects Checkout Security to EDD payment and checkout flows. It enables fraud checks during EDD checkout, risk evaluation when EDD creates a payment, and trust score tracking for EDD customers.

The connector loads the EDD cart, checkout, order, session, and platform adapter classes. These classes translate EDD-specific behavior into the interfaces used by the shared security engine.

When you deactivate the connector, it unregisters the edd platform from the core. The core then stops applying platform-specific protection to EDD until the connector is active again.

Payment-to-order normalization

EDD uses payments as its order post type. Its terminology and payment data structures differ from WooCommerce order records.

The connector converts EDD payment records into the unified CCP_Platform_Order interface. The core fraud engine can then evaluate orders consistently without depending on the underlying commerce platform.

Risk scoring, order review, and IP whitelisting use the same core behavior for EDD and WooCommerce. Only the platform-specific cart, checkout, payment, and session operations differ.

EDD currently uses the legacy fraud detection path. Fraud scoring and risk evaluation work, but progressive response actions (such as CAPTCHA challenges and graduated enforcement) are verified for WooCommerce only at this time. CAPTCHA is not available for EDD checkout flows.
