Installation

System requirements, installing the core plugin and connectors, activation, and adapter health checks.

Install Checkout Security

Install the Checkout Security core plugin and one or more connector plugins for the e-commerce platforms you use. Each release contains four separate ZIP files: one core plugin and three platform connectors.

System Requirements

Before installing Checkout Security, confirm that your hosting environment meets these requirements:

  • PHP: 7.4 or newer
  • Database: MySQL 5.7 or newer, or MariaDB 10.2 or newer
  • WordPress: Current version
  • Composer: Required only for development workflows, not for production installations

Installation Steps

Download the release ZIPs

Download the separate release ZIP files:

  • checkout-security: The core plugin
  • checkout-security-woocommerce-adapter: The WooCommerce connector
  • checkout-security-edd: The Easy Digital Downloads connector
  • checkout-security-fluentcart-adapter: The FluentCart connector

Download only the connector plugins for the platforms you use. Keep the ZIP files compressed because WordPress installs plugins directly from the uploaded archives.

Install the core plugin

  1. Sign in to your WordPress administrator dashboard.
  2. Go to Plugins → Add New.
  3. Select Upload Plugin.
  4. Choose the checkout-security core ZIP file.
  5. Select Install Now.

WordPress displays a successful installation message when the core plugin is ready to activate.

Activate the core plugin

Select Activate Plugin after the installation completes, or open Plugins → Installed Plugins, find Checkout Security, and select Activate.

The core plugin provides the shared fraud engine, security logic, administration screens, storage, privacy features, and logging. Protection does not cover an e-commerce platform until you also install its connector.

Install the connector plugins

Install each connector you need using the same upload process:

  1. Go to Plugins → Add New.
  2. Select Upload Plugin.
  3. Choose the connector ZIP file.
  4. Select Install Now.

Install the connector only after installing the core plugin. For example, install checkout-security-woocommerce-adapter for WooCommerce, checkout-security-edd for Easy Digital Downloads, or checkout-security-fluentcart-adapter for FluentCart.

Activate the connector plugins

Activate each installed connector from the installation confirmation screen or from Plugins → Installed Plugins.

The corresponding e-commerce platform must also be installed and active. The WooCommerce connector requires WooCommerce 5.0 or newer, the Easy Digital Downloads connector requires EDD 2.9 or newer, and the FluentCart connector requires FluentCart 1.8.0 or newer.

Verify adapter registration

Open the Checkout Security dashboard and review the platform adapter health status.

A successful installation shows the connected platform with a green health status. Green means the connector registered successfully and enforcement is active for that platform.

Adapter health check

After activation, the core plugin checks whether each connector registered its platform adapter successfully. The core waits for connectors to load before starting protection.

The Checkout Security dashboard displays the health status for each detected platform. Review this status after activating the core and connector plugins, and resolve any warning before testing checkout protection.

Checkout Security supports partial protection. If your site uses multiple platforms and only one has an active, registered connector, protection runs for the connected platform while the platform without a connector remains unprotected.

Troubleshooting

The adapter is not detected

Confirm that both the core plugin and the connector plugin are active under Plugins → Installed Plugins. The connector depends on the core plugin classes, so activating the connector without the core can produce an adapter health warning.

If both plugins are active, reload the Checkout Security dashboard and check the adapter status again. Deactivate and reactivate the connector if the warning remains.

The PHP version is too low

Check the PHP version assigned to your site in your hosting control panel or WordPress site-health tools. Checkout Security requires PHP 7.4 or newer.

Contact your hosting provider to upgrade PHP if your site runs an older version. Test your other plugins and theme after the upgrade before enabling checkout enforcement.

The platform plugin is missing

Install and activate the e-commerce platform before activating its connector. The supported platform plugins are WooCommerce, Easy Digital Downloads, and FluentCart.

The connector cannot register an adapter when its platform plugin is inactive or unavailable. After activating the platform plugin, activate the Checkout Security connector and review the dashboard health status.
